"Working full-time helps me feel more responsible.  I like having a steady paycheck and I save most of my money."

Ben

Ben knows that working is an important part of his life because it gives him purpose and makes him feel more like an adult. He likes his co-workers and supervisors and he especially enjoys bagging groceries at the Giant Eagle store in Caste Village in Whitehall. The power of work has been part of Ben's life since 2001 when he was referred to Goodwill's Youth Works Program through Baldwin High School because of his learning disability. Assigned to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, he first worked on a clean-up crew and then in the commissary where food for the animals is prepared. After graduating, Ben transitioned into adult job placement at Goodwill and was hired by Giant Eagle in 2003. Over the years, Ben won 50 gold medals swimming in the Special Olympics and today he enjoys traveling with his family, visiting relatives in Florida, and watching football and professional wrestling. "I like going to work at the Giant Eagle" Ben says. "I just take things a day at a time and see how life goes."
