" I wanted to work. I didn't want to sit around."

jeanne

Born in Korea, Jeannie had moved to Florida with her adoptive parents in the mid-1970's and later came to Pittsburgh, where she attended the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and graduated from high school. She worked part time for a while, but turned to Goodwill for help that might enable her to work full time someday. Jeannie is now employed in a job-training position in Goodwill's Burnham Cafe cafeteria, where she receives training and support to help her enjoy the dignity and benefits of work - including having her own apartment and being able to buy gifts for her family. Jeannie's long-range plans are uncertain, but for now Goodwill is the place she wants to be. " I really like working here," she says. "There's a lot of nice people here and they've been a lot of help."
