Helping people overcome barriers in order to achieve
competitive employment is the core activity of Goodwill
Industries. During 1999, our innovative welfare to-work
and community employment programs helped nearly 350
men and women find jobs by identifying and following
their individual pathways to success.

Goodwill is a "one-stop" source for job-related services
to help individuals with disabilities and other barriers to
employment. From evaluation and testing, to training
and education, to placement and employment services -
no other organization offers such a comprehensive
and integrated menu of employmentrelated services.
Educational Services   
The Goodwill Literacy Initiative (GLI) offers a variety of programs to help clients improve their skills in reading, spelling, writing, math and problem solving. 557
Goodwill Employment Training Center (GETC), licensed by the Pennsylvania Board of Private Licensed Schools, offers curriculum-based, time-limited career education. The expected outcome for all GETC programs is competitive employment. 58

Responding to the need for effective driver training at a reasonable cost, Goodwill offers a complete,  fully certified driver training course through its state-licensed private school, the Goodwill Employment Training Center.

H.E.A.R.T House (temporary housing, career counseling,
education, training,and job-placement assistance for homeless
families); Domiciliary Care (group homes for men and women
with mental retardation); Goodwill Villa, Goodwill Plaza and
Goodwill Manor (residential facilities for seniors); Community
Corrections Center (30-bed alternative housing and pre-release
services facility for non-violentmale offenders); Jefferson
Courtyard (independent living facility for people with
mental health disabilities).

Elderberry Junction focuses on quality-of-life for elderly
personswith mental retardation.

Outreach & Social Services 15,679
Emergency Needs Fund 12,164
Special funding for the purchase of meals, clothing, furniture,
and food made available to needy individuals referred to
Goodwill by various social agencies.
Energy Utility Assistance

Helping Duquesne Light, Equitable Gas, and Peoples Gas
customers access various energy assistance programs.
