Goodwill
Industries of Pittsburgh is Building Our Community.....
One Job at a Time.
Goodwill Industries
of Pittsburgh is a human service agency and network of not-for-profit
businesses whose mission is to assist people with special needs to overcome
barriers to work and enjoy the dignity and benefits of work and improved
quality of life.
Since
its founding in Boston in 1902, Goodwill Industries has evolved into
a large and diverse international organization with 187 autonomous members
in the U.S. and Canada and 54 associate members in 37 countries outside
of North America. Under a franchise-like agreement with Goodwill Industries
International, Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh serves southwestern
Pennsylvania and north central West Virginia. We operate a variety of
businesses to help support our programs and to provide training and
employment opportunities for our clients. The best-known Goodwill business
is our chain of retail stores which sell donated clothing and household
items.
Revenues from Goodwill stores - along with income from our other business
units, salvage sales, contract work, rehabilitation grants and fees,
and public support - go directly to job-training services and equipment
needed by people with disabilities and disadvantages. An average of
89.4 percent of all revenue raised by Goodwill Industries supports our
job-training and employment programs.
