Goodwill Industries of Fayette County

Founded in 1969, Goodwill of Fayette County serves a wide range of clients, primarily adults who have visual and hearing impairments, physical and emotional disabilities, educational and cultural disabilities such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and mental retardation, as well as individuals with social and economic disadvantages, such as welfare-to-work candidates.

Programs

Goodwill Fayette offers vocational training programs and several types of employment opportunities, ranging from sheltered workshops employing people with substantial limitations to transitional or support employment, and competitive jobs for people with less severe disabilities. With guidance and support from its volunteer Board of Directors, Goodwill Fayette works closely with rehabilitation agencies and job placement offices to coordinate and implement its training and employment services.

Intensive Vocational Rehabilitative Program - Serves individuals with drug and alcohol problems by providing counseling and work experience, along with outpatient education, therapy and placement services.

Union Station Clubhouse - Launched in January 2002, this is a new rehabilitation program designed specifically for individuals who have mental illness, which impacts their social and vocational lifestyles. It is both an approach to psychosocial rehab and a physical place represented by the word "clubhouse." Individuals, who are called "members" rather than "patients" or "clients," are welcome to join at no cost and to participate by developing their own activities.

Businesses

Goodwill Fayette operates several business enterprises to provide training and employment opportunities for clients and to generate revenues to help fund programs and services.

Contract Workshop - Assembly, sorting, collating, packaging and other handwork services for business and institutional customers.

Recycling Center - Serves 14 Fayette County communities and handles nearly 80 percent of the county's recycled material.

Janitorial Services - Cleaning services for private and institutional facilities.

"I like the 'Cat In The Hat' movie and the 'Cops' TV show and Pro Wrestling."

richard

Richard has come a long way in the past few years, learning how to manage his emotions, keep on task, learn from others, and be a productive part of the store's team. His goal is to eventually  obtain employment in the community, so he works hard to improve his productivity and he willingly takes on new challenges, such as sorting books and records, helping with housekeeping chores, and unloading the donation truck, which is one of his favorite jobs. With a contagious smile and a friendly "hello" for everyone, Richard is well liked by his fellow employees.Today, his job at Goodwill is a critically important part of his life, something that Richard is really proud of.
